Professional Development Activities

The organizing committee for the IEEE 7th International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS 2015) invites students that are at a mature stage of their doctoral studies, recently graduated, or recently appointed post-doctoral researchers in a biometrics related subject, to apply for the doctoral consortium (DC). The DC offers an opportunity for interacting with and receiving advice from eminent researchers in the field regarding future career paths, completing dissertations, and more.

This year we will attempt to encourage interactions throughout the conference by having mentors and students wear a small tag on their badge identifying themselves.  These tags will be handed out at an initial 15 minutes meet and greet the first day of the conference.  The last day of the conference we will have a 1.5 hour lunch that will include advice and personal interactions with mentors.

Benefits of these interactions include:

•Employment and career advice

•Exchange and discussion of research ideas

•Advice on how to successfully put a closure to a PhD

Important Dates

  1. DC Submission deadline: July 15, 2015

  2. DC Notification by: August 1, 2015

  3. Doctoral Consortium:

       -- 15 Minutes Introduction on September 9th

       -- 1.5 hour lunch on September 11th
